About Centre Contact Events Links News Publications Support
The Victoria Peace Centre (VPC) was front and foremost in peace actions in Victoria for twenty years. Formerly called the Greater Victoria Disarmament Group, we initiated the annual Peace Walk, now broadened to Peace, Earth and Justice, the longest continuing walk in Canada, since 1982. Over the years we have had a resource centre, published leaflets, newsletters and information packets, we've organized many workshops, forums and other public events.
In 2002, the Peace Centre put on a peace film festival - some of our films have been donated to VIPIRG at UVic and are available for loan at VIPIRG's resource centre in the Student Union Building (721-8629).
We helped organize the annual Walk and Peace, Earth, Justice Week. Our display table at the Walk featured postcards about Iraq and wonderful new T-shirts. We still have a great selection of T-shirts in various sizes and colours for $15 each, with a large reproduction of our distinct peace sign logo.
The Peace Centre supports the Peace, Earth & Justice News service which has over 1500 subscribers. We also maintain this www.vicpeace.ca website.
On Hiroshima Day, we co-sponsored the production of a leaflet, "From Hiroshima to Baghdad", in English, Japanese and Arabic that was distributed downtown and at the Coho ferry and to groups across Canada and abroad.
We continue to operate the Nuclear Ship Warning network with house signs and actions.
Once again we plan to have a No War Toys event near Christmas.

Nuclear Ship Warning Signs Campaign
This campaign monitors the comings and goings of nuclear ships in Victoria,
and activates a phone tree whenever a nuclear ship is in port. Those on the
phone tree put up "Warning: Nuclear Ship Now In Port" signs in their window,
lawn or car, whenever a nuclear ship is in port. Downtown businesses, as well
as homes, are part of this campaign. To get a sign and join the phone tree,
call (250) 642-5120 or send an email.
